As part of my ongoing lounge redecoration project, I want to replace the existing ancient gas fire with a modern contemporary one (see existing setup in photo).
Alcove in wall is 100cm x 80cm, depth 19cm. Chimney breast has total depth of 29cm. The alcove vertical elevation is 20cm.
So (as a DIY novice), I am assuming I need an inset gas fire to go in the alcove.
Question is, what would be needed to do this, what brand/size of fire would be good, and what brickwork/plastering would be needed, if any ? Also, at what point in the decoration process should the new fire be put in (before or after the main plasterer who will be skimming the room) ?
Any suggestions welcome, and please bear in mind I’m a DIY novice.
